Production Process of Phosphate Fertilizer
 
Phosphate is one of the three essential nutrients for crop growth. As the world's largest phosphate fertilizer producer, China relies on the industrial chain of phosphate rock - phosphoric acid - ammonium phosphate to guarantee phosphorus supply for domestic grain production.
 
Phosphate fertilizer production is mainly divided into two categories: wet process (acid process) and thermal process, with specific procedures varying by raw materials and end products.
 
Sulfuric Acid Process (Wet-Process Phosphoric Acid)
 
It is the dominant technology for producing high-concentration phosphate fertilizers worldwide. Featuring superior economic efficiency, it is ideal for large-scale continuous production. In this process, phosphate rock powder is decomposed with sulfuric acid to extract phosphoric acid. The product is then neutralized, concentrated and granulated to make monoammonium phosphate (MAP), diammonium phosphate (DAP), single superphosphate (SSP), triple superphosphate (TSP) and other products.
 
Thermal-Process Phosphoric Acid
 
Phosphate rock is reduced in an electric furnace to produce yellow phosphorus, which is then combusted and hydrated to prepare high-purity phosphoric acid. This process yields products of high purity, applicable to the production of electronic-grade and high-quality food-grade phosphoric acid, which are further processed into high-purity phosphate fertilizers and fine phosphate products.
