From September 14 to 16, the 2026 (18th) China Annual Conference on Carbon for Aluminum & Carbon Materials Development Forum was held in Jinan, Shandong. Centered on the theme “Driven by Innovation, Guided by Low Carbon Development, Ushering in a New Era with Intelligence”, this conference focuses on the intelligent, green and high end upgrading of the industry. As a professional domestic manufacturer of grinding equipment, SBM was invited to attend the event to discuss the upgrading path for carbon material powder preparation with peers across the industrial chain.
Carbon for aluminum is known as the ”heart” of electrolytic aluminum and serves as a core supporting material for electrolytic aluminum production. Data released at the conference shows that China’s output of carbon anodes for aluminum reached 24.28 million tons and cathodes 425 000 tons in 2025, with exports of both anodes and cathodes hitting record highs.
Meanwhile, the industry is confronted with challenges including approaching “ceiling” of domestic demand, increasingly stringent environmental regulations, insufficient supply of high quality raw materials and lack of original innovation. Nevertheless, the continuous large scale retrofitting of domestic electrolytic cells, together with the successive commissioning of under construction and planned overseas electrolytic aluminum capacities totaling tens of millions of tons, has opened up new growth opportunities for the carbon industry.
During the keynote session of the conference, technical experts from SBM delivered a special report titled “ Application of LM Vertical Mills and MTW European Trapezium Mills in the Carbon for Aluminum Industry", stematically introducing the technical advantages and engineering practices of the two types of equipment in the carbon for aluminum sector.
LM Vertical Roller Mill
